The shopping streets in Sorrento

Apart from the natural beauty of the architectural and monumental buildings, when you are in Sorrento you cannot resist the shopping, souvenirs are sold all around town as are the typical products of Sorrento.

Parking in sorrento

Before completely dedicating yourself to the shops, it is important to know where to park in Sorrento. Believe or not Sorrento has a small number of inhabitants, but parking is not difficult, there are several parking stations in town, what they do not have many of is free parking. Actually there are very few white lined parking spaces, if you are lucky enough to find one, you can park all day without paying.

The important thing to remember is when you do come to Sorrento in your car, from 19:30 and on Sundays, the historical centre is closed to traffic.

Parking on the Streets of Sorrento

The white lines for free parking in Sorrento are situated at:

Via Rota (fairly distant from the Centre);

Via Parsano (5 mins from Corso Italia).

For all the rest of the centre of Sorrento, there are blue parking stripes, which means you need to buy a ticket from the automatic ticket machines which are situated on the streets of Sorrento at a cost of €1 for 30 mins and €2 for 1 hour or more.

Parking a Scooter or Moped in Sorrento

If you decide to come to Sorrento on scooter, between Piazza Lauro and Via Degli Aranci there are many parking spaces for the two wheelers, being careful to park correctly or you may risk a fine.

Ravello is one of the Amalfi Coasts’ most beautiful towns, however in all her extreme beauty, it is never overcrowed by tourists even in the hottest months of the year.

If you would like to see Ravello in one day it is advisable to start at one of the most famous buildings of the coast of Amalfi Villa Rufolo. The historical building of Villa Rufolo is in Piazzo Duomo, positioned in the centre of town, in which you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Gulf.

The construction dates back to XIII century, in the course of the XIX century important renovations were carried out, making the building the jewel of the coast it is today

The most fascinating characteristics of Villa Rufolo is surely the cloisters and the gardens, which make this villa a place to visit at least once in a lifetime.

In the same area you can also admire the Dome dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta and to Sant Pantaleone. Architecturally the Dome has the right combination of Romanesque and Baroque. Inside the church in the Chapel of San Pantaleone are the relics of the saint with the ampoule of blood which each year, like in Naples for San Gennaro, the blood liquefies.

Visiting the Dome is usually combined in visiting the two museums, one on the left aisle which contains a very interesting collection of paintings from the churches of the area, the other in the crypt, dedicated to sculptures and antique materials of the church.

Another must see during a day’s visit to Ravello is Villa Ciabrone. Entering this incredible place, you will find yourself in a crypt followed by a beautiful cloister, from the gardens is a small pathway that leads to an incredible view of the gulf. Villa Ciabrone like Villa Rufolo is famous for their gardens and its feeling of tranquility.

Walk of the Gods

The Walk of the Gods, is a trekking route in the Amalfitana Coast that goes from Agerola to Nocelle. The length of the walk is about 7km, and takes about 4 hours and is about 200 metres above sea level.

Apart from being a very famous and suggestive tourist route, the walk has been considered for centuries the road that joined towns of the coast where commercial traffic took place between the villages like Positano and the Hellenic colonies. From the Amalfi coast and the Sorrentine Coast it was considered to be the most beautiful scenery of the world.

Capri clothing

The most popular element of Capri has to be the typical capri clothes. In first place is the Caprese trouser, even if you have never visited Capri, you will definately know of or own a pair.

The most popular place to purchase a pair of Capri trousers, made to measure , is the famous boutique La Parisienne, it is found in the piazzetta, better know as Piazza Umberto. In the boutique La Parisienne of Capri it is possible to have a pair of Capri trousers made to measure in one day.
The second most popular element would have to be the handmade sandals unique in their kind. These particular sandals can be purchased in one of many artisanal boutiques in Capri, after having your foot measured, you can choose your leather and decorations which will be sewn while you wait.

Many famous women have worn Caprese Sandals one of which was Jackie Kennedy, who would ask for a private opening at midnight at Canfora, so she could calmly choose her sandals. To honour the First Lady, Amedeo Canfora created the model K. Decorated with entwinded gold rings, that even today are very popular.

Capri Perfumes

Apart from the fashion, the shopping in Capri is very well known for the purchase of Capresi Perfumes. Travelling around the island you will notice perfume laboratories. This is a very old tradition, that started in 1400’s by the Certosa Monks of St Giacomo who would soak in alcohol flowers and herbs from Capri.

The oldest perfume shop is the Carthusia that for many years has created fragrances from flowers and local herbs. Purchasing a perfume from one of many shops of Carthusia is the best way to take a little bit of Capri home.

The bell of Capri

If you would like to take a souvenir home to someone special, you should definately think about the bell of Capri. The reason is simple, this object is very special to the island of Capri and is linked to a very interesting legend.

The legend says that a little sheepboy with no father, owned one little sheep. One night while he was picking flowers for his mother, he noticed that his sheep had wondered away. Desperate from the loss of their only means of livelihood , the little boy cried and cried, suddenly from far away he heard a sound of a bell, thinking it was the bell around his sheeps neck he followed the sound, running as fast as he could he saw a light and Saint Michele appeared on a white horse. The Saint consoled the little sheepboy and gave him a bell that he wore as a pendant, and said to follow the sound so as to avoid danger, and he disappeared. After finding his sheep, the little boy returned home and gave the bell to his mother. From that day their lives changed and they became rich.

Typical Capri products

The typical products of Capri like Ravioli, mozzarella of bufala, tomatoes, caprese cake and to finish off a sensational limoncello.

The caprese ravioli are made from a light pasta made from half flour and half water, filled with caciotta sorrentina, parmigiano and marggiorana then served with fresh tomato sauce, parmigiano and basil. You can also have them fried, which are exceptional. The best place to buy ravioli caprese is at Capri Pasta, which is about 30metres from the Piazzetta.

If you cannot take them with you, you can have them sent to you in a day. If finding the ravioli is too difficult, eating a simple but exsquisite plate is definately easy. Tomato, mozzarella of bufala, olive oil and fresh basil will give life to one of the most popular plates of the island The Caprese .

Lets explore the Amalfi Coast

From Positano a Vietri Sul Mare passing through Ravello, Amalfi and Cetara: The Amalfi Coast is part of the Campana Coast situated south of the Sorrentine Peninsula and Naples that faces the Gulf of Salerno. This part of the coast is not only a geographical location it is like a balcony overlooking the Tirreno Sea, where you can see the immense slopes of Mount Lattari, the beaches and the terraced lemon, olive and grape coltivations.

Vietri sul mare

The first town you will get to leaving from Salerno is Vetri Sul Mare. Crystal clear waters, dreamy beaches that will make you fall in love with the Amalfi Coast. Known all over the world for its famous ceramics, the characteristical streets of Vetri Sul Mare are packed with little boutiques that respect the traditional craftmanship of handpainted ceramics.

Conca dei Marini

The Amalfi Coast is however rich of hidden beautys, one of these is surely Conca Dei Marini, an ancient fishing village with a population of a few hundred inhabitants. It has become one of the most popular tourist attractions of the Amalfi Coast, it is charming and enchanting a definate must on a tour of the Amalfi Coast.

Conca Dei Marini gastronomical delicacies that characterise its tradition, the most delicious and important is la sfogliatella Santa Rosa, la tonnara and the pomodorini a piennolo.

La sfogliatella Santa Rosa, was first discovered by accident in the 1700 by the Domenican Conservatorio di Santa Rosa di Lima who decided to add sugar, milk, dried fruit, corn flour and sour cherries to a little left over dough. The sweet was delicious, and became a symbol of the village, and to this day, in August, they celebrate with a Festa dedicated to the goodness of this delicious pastry.

Conca dei Marini culinary culture is represented by the tonnara, (tuna) a system of fishing with nets trapping the tuna, that pass through during seasonal migration, and pomodorini a piennolo (similar to cherry tomatoes), typical of the area, are freshly picked , tied together and kept in the shade to conserve all year round. Patience, expertise and the salty sea air transform these little pomodorini into a very savory delight added to mussell soup and various other dishes.

Fiordo di Furore

La Conca Dei Marini rises alongside Fiordo di Furone, immense rock formations that create an almost alpine scenery, high rocky walls overhanging onto the sea, protecting the small isolated beach from the world.

Grotto dello smeraldo

Another marvel of the Conca dei Marini is La Grotta dello Smeraldo, about 30 metres wide and 60 metres long and 24 metres high. Found in 1932 by a local fisherman by the name of Luigi Buoncuore, the Grotta dello Smeraldo can be reached by boat from Amalfi or from the state road 163 there is a lift or stairs that take you down.

When the sea is calm and the sun is high, the grotta dello smeraldo is magical, light from the sunbeams dancing around giving the feeling of a magical kingdom.

The most beautiful beach of the Amalfi Coast

Apart from the great excursions, the Amalfi Coast is the perfect place to just relax on the beach, although some of them are in hard to reach places, hiring a small boat or doing a tour of the most beautiful beaches on the Amalfi Coast is the perfect solution to be able to enjoy 100% of these breathtaking beaches.

BOOK NOW YOUR TOUR

Discover the beauty of the beaches of the Amalfi coast at an exclusive price.

In the vacinities of Nerano, on the western end of the Amalfi Coast you will find Marina del Cantone. Sheltered from the winds Marina del Cantone is the perfect place to relax in the sun. The water is transparent and there are many restarants that offer the typical local dish pasta and zucchine or a seafood dish.

Marina grande di Positano

Positano is one of the most popular tourist attractions of the italians and the foreigners. Its caracteristic streets, the houses all grouped together, beautiful beaches, enchanting sea and the local cuisine lure hundreds of thousands of tourist in the summer season.

Marina Grande is classed one of the most beautiful beaches of Italy, with its breathtaking surroundings it makes Marina Grande one of the most loved and renowned places to visit.

Maiori e Minori

Maiori beach’s panorama is definately different from the other beaches along the Amalfi Coast, a kilometer of sandy beach and many swimming establishments on a flat seafront. The swimming estiblishments offer the possibility of hiring watercrafts, or organising a tour of the Grotta di Pandora and the Grotta Sulfurea: attractions that will make your day interesting and fun.

If Maiori has changed its aspect, Minori has remained the same, with its 250 metres of beach and 3 swimming establishments, facing south it is kissed by the sun all day.

Colors of blue and transparent, sheathed in silver shadows, calm and dark. In a magical location charactirized by incredible legends that recount stories of fortune and misfortune. An attraction that must be seen at least once in a lifetime to be able to retell about a magical experience… in a few words The Blue Grotto in Capri.

Where is the Blue Grotto

The Blue Grotto in Capri is one of the most popular and loved by tourists from around the world, and you will find it north of Capri in front of the Villa Imperiale of Damecuta, at the base of Monte Solaro.

The legend of the Blue Grotto

Certainly one of the attractions to see in Capri, the Blue Grotto is known as far back as the Roman times, in fact the signs of their passing through is evident, in the Blue Grotto and Capri you will see a concrete platform that served as an internal landing place, as well as pagan divinities found on the bottom: one of the statues represent Poseidon, and the other Tritone.

The statues found in the Blue Grotto in Capri are preserved in the Museum of the Certosa of San Giacomo. History says that the Emporer Tiberio had his own private pool.

For many years the grotto was forgotten by the residents of the island, mainly because of rumors that it was inhabited by evil spirits. In 1826 the german painter August Kopisch and a friend Ernst Fries, accompanied by a local fisherman Angelo Ferraro refound the grotto.

Kopisch described the beauty of the Blue Grotto in a book, obviously they did not meet any demons or spirits, only the absolute beauty of the grotto. The illustrations of Ernst Fries tells all.
